ANNUAL DIORAMA MODELING CONTEST

The contest subject is announced every September (see below) and every member is welcome to participate. Typically a kit is chosen as the centerpiece of the diorama. The kit can be anything from a railroad car to a structure. A small fee is charged for the kit and is refunded when the modeler presents their diorama at the April Division meeting. Winners are determined by popular vote by the Division membership. First, second and third place winners are awarded a gift certificate to The Hobby Stop in Madison, WI.

The final vote is held at the Verona Senior Center, 108 Paoli Street Verona, WI 53593 during our regular April Division meeting. See the September or October Bad Order newsletter for more information.

For the 2025-2026 season the project is called “Hole-In-One” and is based on the Walthers kit with the same name. As in previous years the project consists of building a mini-diorama around a kit.

For those who sign up, the kit will be available in HO and N scales. The HO mini-diorama is limited to two square feet (288 sq. inches) maximum in size. The N scale version is limited to one square foot (144 sq. inches) in size. You may add people, vehicles, other structures, railroad items, scenery, etc. as you choose and at your own expense.

To participate you are required to make a deposit of $15.00 with the project chairperson prior to picking up your kit. If you complete the mini-diorama and bring it to the April 2026 meeting for popular vote judging your deposit will be refunded. If you fail to do this, your deposit is forfeited to the SCWD.

Separate winners will be voted on for each scale, and prizes are gift certificates to the Madison Hobby Stop. Prize awards: 1st = $75. 2nd = $50 and 3rd = $25.

Sign up at the October or November meetings. No sign ups will be taken after that, and kits must be picked no later than at the December 2025 meeting.
