Model and Photo Contests

Models and photos have always been a big part of conventions and we are looking for another fine group of entries at the Capitol 400. Here are a few important things we would like to point out.

First, for both contests, you must be an NMRA member in good standing to enter models or photos. There are special contest categories for members under 17 years of age as well as scratchbuilt and kit built models.

Second, you can enter no more than 10 TOTAL ENTRIES and no more than 3 in any category in the model contest. NOTE: This is a change for the model contest beginning this year. For example, in the model contest, you could enter 2 structures online, 1 structure offline, 3 freight cars, 2 passenger cars, 1 non-revenue car and 1 display offline, for a total of 10 entries in the model contest. It doesn’t matter if models are different scales.

For the photo contest, each entrant will be limited to a maximum of five (5) entries per contest (Model and Prototype), with a maximum of three (3) in any one category, for a total of 10 entries.

Each model must be accompanied by NMRA Contest Entry Form 901 which describes the item entered. Completing this form before coming to the convention will save you time for other convention activities and speed up the entry process.

The Contest Room will be open for entries Friday evening from 7 to 9pm; and Saturday morning from 8am to 11am. Judging will take place Saturday beginning at 1pm, at which time the Contest Room will be closed except to judges. The Contest Room will be open again for viewing after the judging is completed, sometime between 4 and 5:30pm and again after the banquet. Entrants may pick up their models after the room reopens after judging. All models must be picked up Saturday evening; the room will NOT be open on Sunday.

Awards will be announced at the banquet Saturday night.

So, start building and photographing. We look forward to seeing your entries at the Capitol 400.
